Italy has issued a sharp rebuke to Russia following a drone attack that reportedly targeted a residential building in Romania, close to the Ukrainian border, which left two civilians injured and heightened regional security concerns. The incident has drawn significant attention due to its location in Romania, a country that holds membership in both the European Union and NATO.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni characterized the drone strike as a highly serious offense. She emphasized that the event underscores ongoing threats to civilian safety and the potential for broader security challenges across Europe. In her statement, Meloni expressed Italy’s solidarity with Romania and those affected by the attack, highlighting the incident as a stark reminder of the conflict’s far-reaching implications.

In a similar vein, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani urged Russia to commit earnestly to achieving a just and enduring peace, reaffirming Italy’s unwavering support for Romania in the face of this aggression. Echoing these sentiments, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto condemned the attack as a reckless escalation, stressing that the security of any NATO and EU member state is a shared concern among all allies.

The attack took place in the city of Galați, situated near the Ukrainian border, where Romanian authorities confirmed that two individuals sustained injuries when the drone struck a residential structure. As a result, the incident has fueled apprehensions among European leaders about the potential for the conflict to extend beyond Ukraine’s borders, threatening neighboring nations.

NATO members, in response, have continuously reiterated their commitment to collective defense and maintaining regional stability amid the persisting tensions. The recent drone strike serves as a poignant reminder of the delicate security situation in Eastern Europe and the necessity for vigilance and solidarity among allied nations.
