The Chinese government has voiced its disapproval of a proposed sanctions bill in the United States that aims to target the primary purchasers of Russian oil and natural gas. Emphasizing the protection of its commercial entities, China has pledged to undertake all necessary actions to safeguard their legitimate interests.
During a statement, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian articulated China’s strong opposition to unilateral sanctions that lack the backing of international law or approval by the United Nations Security Council. This reflects Beijing’s consistent stance against measures that circumvent global diplomatic frameworks.
The legislative proposal in the U.S. seeks to sanction major global importers of Russian crude oil and natural gas. Among the countries potentially affected, China is notably included as one of the largest consumers of these resources.
Lin cautioned against the U.S. employing double standards and coercive tactics, suggesting that such strategies would ultimately be counterproductive. He reiterated China’s firm opposition to what it views as illegal, unilateral punitive measures.
