HAKONE, JAPAN – Hotel Okura is set to introduce a new pinnacle of luxury travel with the launch of its inaugural Okura Resort property in Japan. The Okura Resort Hakone Gora is expected to open its doors in 2029, targeting one of the country’s most beloved hot spring destinations.

The project is a strategic partnership with developer Nishimatsu Construction. Hotel Okura will oversee the management of the 58-room resort, which is poised to capitalize on Hakone’s status as a key tourism hub, attracting nearly 20 million visitors annually.

Toshihiro Ogita, President of Hotel Okura, emphasized the location’s importance: “This is one of Japan’s most special destinations. We look forward to offering a retreat that perfectly blends natural beauty and our signature hospitality.”

Designed by Gwenael Nicolas, the resort will embody a “Forest Hideaway” aesthetic, prioritizing calming natural materials and expansive views. A key selling point will be the amenity of a private open-air bath with Owakudani hot spring water in all 58 rooms. The property will also feature indoor bathing facilities, a premium teppanyaki restaurant, and a stylish bar lounge, making it an exclusive mountain retreat.
