In a recent meeting held in Seoul, South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back and Japanese Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi underscored their mutual commitment to fostering regional peace and stability through strengthened bilateral cooperation, as well as partnerships with the United States.
As part of their efforts to bolster defense ties, the two nations have decided to reinstitute joint search-and-rescue exercises and enhance military exchanges, including collaboration between their air forces’ aerobatic teams. This initiative signals a significant step forward in improving defense relations, which have been strained over the years due to historical disputes. The renewed focus on security cooperation comes in response to North Korea’s ongoing nuclear activities and its increasing military collaboration with Russia.
