Under an educational cooperation program, South Korea is playing a pivotal role in enhancing Mongolia’s cultural heritage conservation capabilities. This initiative focuses on training future specialists in the field and has led to significant developments at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology. Here, new facilities dedicated to conservation and digital documentation have been established, marking a significant step forward in preserving Mongolia’s rich cultural heritage.
Since its inception in 2020, the partnership has been spearheaded by Kongju National University. One of its remarkable achievements is the establishment of Mongolia’s first Department of Tangible Cultural Heritage Conservation Technology. This department is designed to foster a new generation of experts by offering a comprehensive curriculum and access to upgraded laboratory facilities. Efforts have also been made to enhance faculty training and develop Mongolian-language educational materials tailored to this field.
A critical component of this collaboration is the transition towards a self-sustaining educational model. South Korea is actively involved in training Mongolian faculty members to ensure that the program can continue independently in the future. This strategic move aims to strengthen locally led education and solidify the long-term educational cooperation between South Korea and Mongolia.
The partnership not only focuses on immediate needs but also seeks to establish a foundation for continued growth in cultural heritage conservation.
