South Korea Achieves Best FIFA Women’s Ranking in Over Three Years

South Korea’s women’s national soccer team has achieved a significant milestone by climbing to 17th place in the latest FIFA world rankings, marking their best position in over three years. This advancement follows their commendable performance at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, where they secured a bronze medal.

In the updated rankings, South Korea moved up two spots from their previous standing, returning to 17th for the first time since June 2023. The team is now the fourth-highest ranked Asian nation, trailing Japan, which holds the fifth position, North Korea in 12th, and Australia in 15th place. Meanwhile, China has slipped to 18th.

South Korea’s bronze medal win was a hard-fought achievement, especially after a 2-0 loss to Japan, the host nation, in the semifinals. However, they bounced back to defeat China 1-0 in the third-place match. This victory was particularly notable as it marked South Korea’s first Asian Games bronze in eight years and their first victory over China in 11 years.

Globally, Spain continues to hold the top spot in the rankings, followed by the United States, Germany, England, and Japan. FIFA plans to release the final women’s world rankings for the year on December 7.
